    Hager

Hager is a building-electrical specialist. Our Best Value selection includes modular circuit breakers and residual-current devices, with exact references kept separate so that the pole count or current number never hides the actual protection function.

    01 / Who they are

    A family-owned building-electrical group.

Hager began in Germany in 1955 with electrical-installation equipment and grew into a wider building-electrification group. A distinct solar-storage step came with the acquisition of E3/DC in 2017. E3/DC had developed residential storage systems in Germany since 2010, combining PV conversion, batteries and energy management. That group activity is separate from the Hager protection devices we list: a modular breaker or residual-current switch is not a storage system and does not inherit E3/DC battery-warranty terms.

The manufacturer’s corporate origins are not the manufacturing country of every supplied device. Read the exact label and documents.

    Business development and revenue

Hager publishes rounded annual turnover despite being family owned. After expansion through 2023, group turnover returned to roughly its 2024 level in 2025. The figures include acquisitions and all building-electrification activities. Energy-management businesses widened its offer, while the protection devices in our catalog remain one part of that group.

    Business milestones

    1. Electrical installation is the first business

The family business is founded in Germany. Distribution and protection precede its later solar-storage activities.

    2. E3/DC adds solar storage

The acquisition adds home power stations combining inverter, battery and energy management. E3/DC’s own storage development dates to 2010.

    3. Software broadens energy management

Advizeo joins the group, adding software and services for commercial-building energy performance. This complements, rather than replaces, electrical protection hardware.

    CFC

    Residual-current devices

CFC225F, CFC240F, CFC263F, CFC440F and CFC463F in our catalog are 300 mA Type AC references with distinct pole and current ratings. CFC240F is a two-pole 40 A / 300 mA Type AC RCCB. Its 300 mA threshold is ten times a 30 mA threshold; this is not the same additional personal-protection function. An RCCB also needs coordinated overcurrent protection.

Leakage threshold is not the maximum load current.

    Separate overcurrent protection remains necessary.

    MW / MV / MJ

    Reference-specific modular protection

These references distinguish pole arrangement and B or C trip behavior. The historical MJ716 reference is not replaced by a similarly named modern model. B and C curves change instantaneous trip behaviour, while the ampere rating concerns continuous current. A B-curve breaker is not exchanged for a C-curve solely because both say 16 A; motor starting and fault-disconnection conditions must be reviewed.

The full reference prevents a silent substitution.

The full model determines the protected poles, trip curve and breaking capacity.

    HMC / HMK

    Higher-current modular breakers

Our HMC380, HMC399 and HMK499 are exact C-curve modular references; pole arrangement and breaking ratings remain model-specific. HMC399 is three-pole, 125 A, C curve, with a 15 kA catalogue classification; HMK499 is a separate four-pole 125 A reference with a 30 kA classification. The applicable voltage and IEC rating must remain attached to that figure; these are modular devices, not automatically molded-case breakers.

The 125 A number describes current, not enclosure technology.

A high current rating alone does not turn a modular breaker into a molded-case breaker.

    Key terms

Short definitions for the names used in this guide.

    RCCB / MCB
Residual-current detection and overcurrent protection are different functions, even with similar modular bodies.

A current rating alone does not establish function, fault protection or circuit suitability.

03 / What stands behind the brand

    Best Value

Why Hager is our Best Value choice here.

A focused building-protection selection, not a universal ranking.

Our positioning applies to the selected range. The documented differences above explain the choice.

    Building-electrical focus

The company record describes a group built around building electrical systems, with a history dating to 1955.

    Explicit reference tables

The published records distinguish residual-current functions from modular circuit-breaker capacities.

Sensitivity is part of the function

The listed 300 mA Type AC RCCBs have a defined leakage role. We keep that threshold distinct from 30 mA additional personal protection and from a breaker’s overload protection, avoiding a misleading comparison based only on the housing.

Published characteristics are useful evidence, not a promise of trouble-free operation or fast local warranty handling. Newer models do not inherit decades of field history from the company’s age.

    05 / Warranty & buyer questions

    Warranty coverage

The exact reference, market and supplied terms govern coverage. A datasheet or compliance certificate is not itself a warranty.

Coverage depends on the supplied terms

A universal manufacturer warranty duration for the listed references was not verified. Product defects are assessed under the applicable supplied warranty; protection coordination, installation faults and misuse are separate matters.

    Product cover and system performance

Manufacturer product cover concerns qualifying defects in the supplied equipment. It does not establish the complete installation’s performance, an energy-yield guarantee or a fixed local claim-response time.

    Questions before you buy

No. Their sensitivity and intended protective role are different. The listed 300 mA devices must not be presented as 30 mA additional personal protection.

These RCCBs need separate overcurrent protection. Do not confuse a conditional rating with an integrated breaker.

No. HMC399 and HMK499 are documented modular breakers.
