ReneWave perspective · Protection & switching

    Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric spans energy management and industrial automation. Our selection concentrates on exact circuit-breaker, motor-protection and contactor references: three functions that should not be confused simply because the hardware carries the same green logo.

    01 / Who they are

A broad electrical and automation group.

Schneider’s industrial roots predate modern photovoltaics. Its electrical business expanded through companies such as Merlin Gerin, Square D and Telemecanique, brought together under Groupe Schneider in 1993. The 2008 acquisition of Xantrex added an established solar-inverter business. For ReneWave’s present catalog, the relevant Schneider equipment is protection and motor control: Acti9 breakers, TeSys contactors and GV motor-protection devices perform different jobs around the solar system. They are not solar generators or interchangeable protective devices.

The manufacturer’s corporate origins are not the manufacturing country of every supplied device. Read the exact label and documents.

    Business development and revenue

Group revenue increased from 2023 through 2025. The 2025 release identifies data centres as a major growth market, alongside industry and infrastructure. Energy Management and Industrial Automation together make this a much broader revenue series than solar equipment or the Acti9 and TeSys products in our catalog.

    Business milestones

    1. Electrical businesses brought together

Merlin Gerin, Square D and Telemecanique join under Groupe Schneider, expanding distribution, protection and industrial control.

    2. Solar inverters through Xantrex

The acquisition brings an existing inverter manufacturer into the group. This is a solar-business expansion, not the invention date of Schneider’s circuit breakers.

    3. Energy management drives the larger business

Energy Management accounts for most group revenue. Data-centre demand contributes strongly, explaining why group growth cannot be attributed only to solar.

    02 / Technology

    Selected technology advances

Selected developments in the brand’s specialty, not a complete history or catalog.

Understand the differences between the relevant families. Broader manufacturer offerings and the products ReneWave lists are kept separate below.

    Distribution circuit breakers

Easy9, iC60N and C120 are distinct ranges with reference-specific poles, curves and voltage-qualified breaking capacities. For example, A9F77225 is a two-pole 25 A circuit breaker; pole count and the voltage-qualified short-circuit rating describe different things. AC breaker selection does not establish permission to interrupt a PV DC string.

The family name helps locate the technical record; it is not the record itself.

No residual-current protection is inferred from an MCB identity.

    TeSys GV

    Motor circuit protection

GV2 and GV3 motor-breaker references use defined adjustment ranges and trip characteristics rather than a single fixed distribution rating. GV2P16 has an adjustable 9–14 A motor-protection range. It is selected against the motor nameplate and starting conditions, unlike a fixed 25 A distribution breaker. Adjustment is part of commissioning, not an optional label.

Motor current and the exact adjustable range are separate from frame size.

The exact GV suffix and connection variant remain important.

    Electrically operated switching

LC1D contactors use a coil to operate power contacts. AC-1, AC-3, coil supply and auxiliary contacts describe different parts of the product. LC1D25M7 is a contactor with a 220 V AC coil; its load duty and coil supply are separate ratings. It switches on command and requires separate coordinated protection against overload and short circuit.

The complete suffix distinguishes models that look almost identical.

Separate protection is still required; coil voltage is not power-circuit voltage.

    Key terms

Short definitions for the names used in this guide.

MCB / motor breaker / contactor
Distribution protection, adjustable motor protection and controlled switching are three different functions.

A current rating alone does not establish function, fault protection or circuit suitability.

03 / What stands behind the brand

    Premium

Why ReneWave positions this selection as Premium.

A few concrete reasons, not a claim of superiority in every circuit.

Our positioning applies to the selected range. The documented differences above explain the choice.

    Detailed exact-reference records

Manufacturer records separately identify electrical function, connection variants and applicable standards.

    Distinct control and protection functions

Published contactor ratings separate coil and load categories. That clarity matters more than a single current headline.

    Coordinated motor control

A motor breaker and contactor serve complementary roles. We select the overload setting, short-circuit protection and coil supply together; the contactor’s switching function does not replace the protection device.

Published characteristics are useful evidence, not a promise of trouble-free operation or fast local warranty handling. Newer models do not inherit decades of field history from the company’s age.

    05 / Warranty & buyer questions

    Warranty coverage

The exact reference, market and supplied terms govern coverage. A datasheet or compliance certificate is not itself a warranty.

Coverage depends on the supplied terms

A universal manufacturer warranty duration for the listed references was not verified. Product defects are assessed under the applicable supplied warranty; protection coordination, installation faults and misuse are separate matters.

    Product cover and system performance

Manufacturer product cover concerns qualifying defects in the supplied equipment. It does not establish the complete installation’s performance, an energy-yield guarantee or a fixed local claim-response time.

    Questions before you buy

No. Coil supply controls the contactor; the switched power circuit has its own utilization ratings.

No. Switching and fault protection remain separate roles.

No. The exact function and documented circuit ratings take priority over our commercial label.
